My work has a 98 f150 4.6 ex cab longbed and the chime that remeinds you the key is in the ignition keeps dinging even when the key is out. Is there a way to disable this without pulling the fuse (then the horn stops working too)? If the truck is left overnight, the battery will be dead. Thanks in advance.
Is it doing it when the door is closed, also is the Door Ajar light lit on the dash? A simple and easy solution is spray the latch down with some WD-40 or PB blaster. I do that on a regular basis with my 97. I know my key chime dings also when the key is out but only when the door is open.
yes, it does it even when the door is closed and the key is out. i will try and spray down the latch with some w-d and see if it will stop when the door is closed. any other suggestions?
It has nothing to do with the door latches although they probably would benefit from the service anyway..
Remove the bottom of the steering column shroud. There's a single wire (purple/black?) that is connected to the bottom of the cylinder. I clipped that wire a LOOONG time ago... the switch fails quite often.
Project is right, It was purple with a black stripe on my 2000 pickup. Either cut it, or pull it out and put some tape on the end. Tape just prevents wire from grounding, therefore preventing the chime from making its racket.
