Smile `56 Ford Temp Sending Switch

Does Anyone know if there are different temp sending switches for
312 CID engines? I`m asking in terms of ohms, like fuel sending units.
My new gauge is showing really hot but the engine feels very normal to the touch. Thanks in advance.

1956 was the first year for the 12 volt system. There is only ONE switch used for ALL 1956 cars (Ford/Lincoln/Mercury) & trucks regardless of engine size. It's a one year only switch, and tough to find (at least it was once).

Good Luck, Bill...I haven't seen one for sale anywhere in the last 20 years. They were also sold by...uh...geez...uh...I can't remember the name of the aftermarket supplier...E, Ec.. something (not Echlin). (EDIT = EVERHOT ) The E.. supplier also sold thermostats, housings, other related parts. (I might have some, somewhere [have 100's of NOS Ford parts, mostly car]...if I find one, it's yours)

I'll answer it this way...I don't know. These were hard to find in the late 1960's, the last time I owned a B6C ('56 F100).

N D; Bill , You Know I keep thinking my 312 is a`56 but Its not It`s a `57 T-bird
312. So if I may I`d like to ask again. Are the `57 s different (ohms)? Are the threads different? Part No. ? Thanks Bill.

You need to match the gauge, not the engine.

Weren't '53-'55 gauges the same as '56 except 6v? Maybe you can switch gauges to use the earlier sender? (would need a CVR for 12v)

Entirely different switch, much shorter length, different (smaller) threads:

1/4" -18 pipe thread: B7A-10884-A .. Temp Sending Unit (Motorcraft SW-389)

Passenger cars: 1956/62 ALL engines.

F100/950: 1957/62 ALL engines.

I have a 1956 F100 with a 1957 312 in it as well. I bought a new temp sending unit from tbirdhq.com and it fits fine. The problem is that it won't work with the tmep gauge which needs to be modified to work with the stock truck gauge. I sent my gauge to a place in southern california and they retrofit the gauge so it worked with the new temp sender and still looked stock from the outside. If yo want that information let me know.

Passenger cars should read: 1957/62

not 1956/62. SORRY.

Thanks again Bill; The one I installed fit just fine. The temp just reads very high.
I`ll Get a new one with the part nos. you have supplied. Again , info you have given
is greatly appreciated.
