I just purchased a "project". It is a 1990 F-150 2wd with a 5.0l engine. The transmission that is currently in it is dead and I would like to replace it. The problem is this truck has been hacked to death and I am not sure what the original transmission should be. Any help would be appreciated.
You might want to include if it is an automatic or manual. Auto is probably an AODE, manual could be several choices, my 89 had a T18, but there was also a 5 speed available.
The trans has Ford ID numbers on it = left (drivers) side of the case. The Warranty Plate on the door will have in addition to the VIN, the codes for axle, TRANSMISSION, and etc.
The transmission is automatic. The trans code on the door plate is "E". I can't really go by any markings that are on the transmission cause I know it is not the right one. There are plugs that are not plugged in and the neutral safety switch is not even attached to the transmission. I think the transmission that is currently in the truck is a C6, but that was put in by a hack mechanic.
