Exclamation Transmission Oil Temp

Hey All!!

I just bought a temp gauge for my transmission oil. In the instructions, it tells me to place the sensor on the oil return to the transmission. I would think that I would want to see how hot the oil is coming out of the transmission.... Thoughts?????

It will just scare you on the outgoing side. You just want to know how hot it is after the coolers.

The oil return doesn't really tell you much, with a completely plugged cooler the return line will still say just ducky...you need to put it in the hot line but be prepared to see high temperatures, or put it in the pan oil (best). I understand both the C6 and the E4OD have a great port on the side that is mainline pressure and gives a good indication of actual pan oil.

Thanks guys!
I placed it on the oil outlet line and have tested it. I drove for 20 minutes on the hyway and the temp just came up to 100F! I guess the real test is when I am hauling!

Thumbs up

Thanks for the picture! Makes it so much easier! I am thinking of changing location after seeing the picture..... what size is the sensor & hole???? What temps are you seeing (both hauling and normal)?

The sensor is the one that came with my Autometer guage. it fit into the inspection port on the 4R100 trany in my E-350. I'm not sure about the size off the top of my head. But I will check the size of the plug that came out and post it later. When towing my highest temp has been 190 degrees.
