K transmission

1989, F250, 7.5, automatic, 4x4. The door sticker says I have a K transmission. And what kind of transmission would that be?

That's a C6. It's a three speed transmission, no overdrive, vacuum controlled (not computer controlled). Very reliable, cheap to rebuild when they do break, but will suck the cash directly out of your wallet at the pump, as you undoubtedly already know.
