I have a 2000 f-250 7.3 with 135000 miles.
It has the 6637 air cleaner mod.
It has a turbo boost and a egt gauge.
Last weekend driving up north, like every weekend, I only got 12 miles to the gallon running 70 mph.
I normally get 18-20 mph.
EGT was high about 800 norm is 600.
Truck ran fine.
I got home and changed the oil and the 6637 air filter.
This weekend I got 11 miles to the gallon.
Truck runs fine.
EGT temps are up again.
I need help.
Thanks Frank
The boots that connect your intercooler, to your intercooler tubes, and from the tubes to the 5 way spider in the V of the motor. They are aluminum, and approx 2.5" -3" diameter IIRC If you have factory boots, they should be blue, and some are black. There is 4 total boots.
COME ON !!!!! Cleaning stupid boots wont reduce the temps 200 degrees from normal or mess with the milage that drastically. You have any number of issues. The most minor to start is to check the back pressure flap on the turbo and make sure its not partially jammed or the rod came loose. Second is the possiblity of an exhaust leak from the back pressure sensor or its dirty leaning out and heating the truck temps. Map sensor too. A plain exhaust leak may be contributing. Injectors dirty leaning out or dumping too much. Its relative to the symptoms. Hows the smoke look? Chips programmers.
Frank, backpressure valve armature is visible from the passenger side looking under the turbo on the exhaust fin side. There are other members with pics to better describe this. I have experienced with my truck and one other of my buddies the valve closing for whatever reason. I unplugged mine (Arizona) I do not know what computer input specifically goes awry to cause it to partially or irregular closure. BUT that is only one potential cause. Ive gotten mine up to 1200 degrees at 98mph with a defective backpressure valve.
I took the back pressure tube off and cleaned it.
Holy cow was there the soot and junk in there, I think I found the problem.
Is there a way to take off the Back pressure sensor, I put a wrench on it and the bracket started to bend.
I chickened out and didn't want to break it.
Wouldn't the sensor be plugged like the tube was, what about the fittings that are on the tube?
I think I fixed it but didn't get a chance to run it yet.

glad you found it..spray the senser with pb blast or the like real good and keep trying..yes it can plug the end of the sensor...clean the hole going into the manifold as well..also try to blow a little air through the tube..some times you will find little pin holes in it...
