I was only about a mile from my house and was pulling out of the gas station under light throttle and it quit like someone shut it off. It cranks fast but no fire. This is a 2001 F350 with the 7.3 powerstroke
I have been reading and searching here and It looks like it could be a couple things. The Cam Position Sensor (CPS) or the Fuel Pump.
Does the CPS or any other sensor have anything to do with the fuel pump running?
Is there a shrader valve or other way to test fuel pressure on a diesel? What should the fuel pressure be?
Where is the CPS and how do you test it?
I apologize for not spending more time searching but my truck is setting at a business blocking stuff. I need to get it moved pretty soon.
Good Morning, if you suspect the pump, just turn the key on and listen or feel under your drivers seat. Your pump is there. IF you dont hear it, look for the fuel safety switch on your passenger side. Then fuse 40. Best guess, CPS unit,25-56 dollars. By the way, best way to test CPS unit, replace, if the new one works, throw out old....If it still doesnt work, put old one in glovebox, you will need it later.
Thank you. Is there a tech article or picture of where the cps is? I have already decided to start carrying a spare one of those. What tools are needed to swap it. I see it just has a fork type clamp on them.
Click on this link for a plethora of information regarding our trucks. It gives detailed instructions ( including the tools needed ) with great illustrations for the CPS removal and replacement.
