Tranny temp observation.....

Got my Tru Cool 4590 from Dale (Tymar) and replaced my Hayden cooler. Yesterday I made a tow (10K) to the same place I made one last week (Hayden cooler)and observed my trans temps..Same deal....Hayden was cooler going down in AM and 15-20* warmer on return trip in afternoon....165-175 in AM & 180-195 on PM trip.
Tru Cool was 10-20 degrees cooler. Only got ot about 150-160 in AM..and hit a max of 180-185 in afternoon. Afternoon trip had some hilly roads and traffic..the beltway kind but moving.
BUT....after my usual cool down period(motor running) when I got home..I notied NO drip at trans inspection cover...can 10 * difference do this...??
Also noted that on road speeds of 65-70 MPH trans temps tended to get higher..
180-185 at 65-75 but cooled back to 170-175 when crusing at 55-60 MPH..
Could this be an indication that larger tans cooling lines would be helpful ??
Restriction at higher speeds ?? I have some previous dealing with hydraulic flows but not flows vs cooling .. I know when you increase pressure in water but don't increase flow...It heats the water up !!
Any comments ??
I think I'm ready to order Dale's 3/8 cooling lines or....make up some 1/2" lines if feasable..
ANYTHING TO SAVE THE E4OD !!

Yep, but you will need to replace the front seal soon. The pump seal is notorious for leaking if you have old style. It only leaks when the tranny gets hot...but goes away after cool down.

All your temps look very good IMO. Are you towing in OD?

I increased all my line sizes when I installed my new cooler so I can't tell you if that would make a difference for you or not.

Leak at front seal is not bad....just a nusance at the moment....about a silver dollar size patch on pavement. I know it will have to have some attention to a new seal at some point. By then I would like to have the cooling all ready handled..by then maybe I'll have some $$$ for a good converter, valve body update, and of course a front seal..

Right now I'm in middle of Drag Race season....you know what that means 'Cuda...

I assume you are talking about increasing our cooling line size......not tranny size. I haven't yet. I did put on a larger trans cooler though. I'm talking about increasing the diameter of my trans cooling lines from trans to radiator/cooler up front. My stock line size is 5/16 I.D....I want to go up to 3/8 or larger to improve flow and promote faster cool down of fluid. Tymar(Dale Isley) has such a item. I want to find out more now....might make them up myself....ever try plumbing a race car fuel system ??

Yea, I was talking about the line diameter size. I figured it would be a little project custom bending the lines and such, but just wonder if that would flow better, never really thought of putting in after market cooler if it's harder to "push" the fluid through it tho....

Oh no..I'm not saying it's harder to "push" fluid through it....it could cool more fluid quicker if it could get it via the larger lines...the 4590 is a very good LPD cooler..
LPD= low pressure drop....
I'm just saying at high speeds bigger lines would improve the performance of the 4590...or other good cooler...
That's all..
Dale has a 3/8" line kit for about $75-80.00. I will fnd out if they are rigid lines when I call him..
I'm upgrading my truck in order of necessity...

This question/ thought goes back to an earlier thread I had.

I was hoping to bypass the Stock cooler and use the larger tru Cool with a tube cooler in front of that.

I was told to keep the tranny fluid running through the radiator to warm it up.
But, the tranny itself warms it up and I have a bypass valve that came with my tru Cool. Why not bypass the radiator and use these two coolers in series?

Do I need to worry about the tranny temps being too cold. It gets down to single digits and rarely sometimes colder. But warming up would be achieved by the tranny itself and I don't see why I need to add heat.

If it is cold you may do harm to it if the fluid is too cold and thick and you romp on it. That is why I suggested leaving it thru the radiator. This is just for winter applications and would not help in the summer as you probably know.
