Ok, I just installed my home made EGT gauge/pyro
I have less than 35.00 in it. And just to make sure it is reading correctly i need your help.
I am runing a stock tune. So i was wondering about what your normal temp is at idle? I had It idleing down in the driveway after installing it and I had it down to around 175-200 it is around 70 deg outside. Also normal highway driving at like 65mph what are you temps on the stock tune? I have 373 rears so your rpm's could be higher i realize. But i just want some #'s so i can get a rough idea that this is working correctly.
thanks
Where did you mount your pyro? #'s for pre-turbo are going to be different than post turbo. Cruising at about 65 you should see AROUND 600* depending on wind, exhaust, etc.
on the highway at 65 no grade with i think a tail wind i was about 450* boosting around 3lbs a little less than i normally boost on that same road due to the reduced load from the wind.
difficult. I havn't been able to do it. i can only get close to 600*. But i think the problem is the lack of a large enough grade that is long enough to get it that high.... All of the roads around my house are back roads, so anything over 65 or so can't be done on the hills as they are to curvy for a 7,000lb truck. And the small amount of highway i have is flat on the drive to work. i havn't been out with the boat since i have installed the EGT to pull on some larger longer hills on the way to the lake but i will be towing on saturday. I also forgot to mention in the original post after reading about somone saying how they couldnt beleive how the 5" exhuast helped lower their EGT's. When i rebuilt my turbo i installed one of the Turbonetics High Flow Turbo Outlet's without the EBPV in it. So i think some of the lower EGTs that i'm reading are from that and my cutt off exhaust right behind the tranny cross member.
But this is just a guess and assuming that the stock tune is pretty detuned... Or it could be that my egt response is slower than a normal pyro.. thats what i'm asking questions.
How high on a flat road dead stop to like 75 mph on a stock tune is your EGT gauge reading at the end of the run?
I'm getting contradicting info from my pyro... cruising around back roads this morn on my way home from work going like 40mph i'm runing around 350-400.. but then the highway is around 450. so i was thinking that it isn't reading correctly or it is slower. But then when i pull in my driveway and let it idle down. I am seeing it drop from 350 ish to under 300 in about 2 mins. and it will keep going down until it reaches about 250-200 in between about 2-5 mins. It could be that My truck since i'm runing factory tires, and i'm only a regular cab long bed just isn't having to be worked as hard to get the higher egt temps? i donno going to take me a while to tweak this and figure it out. Yes i could buy a real pyro (and might) but i like playing with things lol and i'm only runing a stock tune so i have no worries of really damaging things. So i will find out real temps when i pull the boat saturday and get to take some good 5% grades at WOT.
