Isn't it interesting that the ESP which covers the truck up to 100k is the same timeframe for the plug changeout. Being the service departments will not recommend changing them at 99,999 miles b/c it's too early, once it hit 100k, warranty gone. I wonder if you flatbed the truck to them at exactly 100k on the odometer and they break the plugs, will ESP cover it?LOL
It's almost comical........ I can only laugh b/c I'm in the same boat as all the other 5.4 3v suckers.....
Kind of ironic, on the 2V 5.4's the plugs would blow out by themselves, now you can't get them out without breaking them. Bottom line, why in heavens name can't Ford get something as simple as a sparkplug design correct after over 100 years of making cars?
I have a 2000 F150XLT 4.6 with 48,000 miles. I have seen the "Service Engine Soon" light come on when I don't use the truck much but it disappears after a few days of use. I used the OBD2 to scan for codes and received P0308, indicating cylinder 8 misfire. It's not time for plug change yet but I have heard that with come gasoline additives, the plugs can get cleaned. Does anyone know what I can add to clean these?
Thanks, Al

A can of Berryman B-12 CHEMTOOL in the gas tank might do the trick. I know it's potent stuff.
It's available at Wal-Mart and probably at many auto parts stores.
I wasn't going to send one to them, but since you took the time to post, I'll take the time to write, and if I get any response I'll let you know!
I wrote Ford's Board a letter detailing everything I talked about here. I requested they look into a refund for me.
Got a call today from an "executive representitive" (I'm not sure if this is a fancier version of administrative assitant/secretary) she's gathering information and is looking into a refund for me.
"ESP claims I must go through the dealer for a refund, but why risk pissing off the people who are my best mechanics over money? It's Ford's fault, let them deal with me!" was essentially told her when she asked if I had requested a refund directly from my dealer.

I'll keep everyone updated.
Sounds great!
Yeah, I've had experiences with my other 2 vehicles in which I contacted Customer Service, and they pushed the issue off on the dealer even though CS was in a better position to deal with it, IMO.
