I've done some searching around here and couldn't come up with anything conclusive. The stick shifter really rocks towards the passenger side of the truck when I pop the clutch. If I'm trying to get out into traffic I can feel the whole engine and tranny rock away from me. I've checked out the motor mounts. The drivers side is flat. Rubber breaks down over time, no big deal. I picked up a pair of nonhydrolic mounts from NAPA. The hydrolic ones have fluid in them. Just give a piece of rubber. Mine has the round motor mounts and that's what I got from NAPA. I've heard some of these are square.
I plan on replacing them this weekend. I"m gonna spray everything down with PB tomorrow to prep it. I've got air tools. What am I in for? Has anyone replaced these? Any help would be appreciated.
I replaced both of mine in my 88' 2.3L. I bought mine from a local parts store, and yes they are kind of round with an egg-like shape to them. One end is smaller than the other. I looked at what I believe were the OE mounts and they looked the same, but one was installed big end up and the other was installed little end up???? I don't know why, but anyway, I wasn't able to get the little alignment pin to line up with the 2nd hole in the bracket, and of course I was not going to install them opposite each other so I did what any gear-head would do..... Make it fit. I had to drill out another hole in one of the brackets so it would align properly, and now they are both in the same way and the engine doesn't move anywhere. It only took about 1-2 hours to remove, clean, fit, paint, & install these. Oh yea, and the engine being out helped just a little too.
