2.3 L, 5 speed, 42,600 miles. Have had this problem almost from new, dealer never found anything wrong and of course I have not had it back there for this since it went out of warranty. Driving, constant speed (anywhere from 35 to 50 mph), truck will occasionally have anything from a slight surge (almost like the tug/push you get when towing a trailer) to mild bucking. Doesn't usually last long, but is annoying. And no, it isn't from the A/C compressor. I know that feeling, and it happens when A/C and defrost are not running. Thought about checking the MAF, but not sure if that could be the culprit?
Footnote to pulsating brakes I posted several months ago. I drive almost exclusively city driving and brakes were pulsating badly about 8000 miles (one year) after I turned rotors and replaced pads. When I suddenly had to make a half dozen 150 mile round trips on the freeway, the problem went away. Maybe pads I have are depositing to much on the rotors and only high speed clears it??
I didn't physically remove the MAF but instead removed the air intake hose and gave it a good shot of electrical contact cleaner. Probably not as effective as removing it and cleaning both sides but it seemed to do the trick. If you want to remove it the dremel tool use seems like it would be the way to go providing you own one already.
