Ive got a 1993 Ford F250 7.3 with a 5 Speed. And i just noticed that when im driving and i push in the clutch to change gears that there is a clunk from somewhere under the truck. Im not really sure where it is coming from. It doesnt do it all the time but it is making me worried. Does anybody have any ideas whats making this sound?
thats exactly what my dad said when he heard the noise and he told me to go under the truck and try to turn the driveshaft to see if there any play in the u joints but they all seem tight. do you have any other ideas?. i also thought it could be a tranny or engine mount but how would i check those or could it even be those?
is it a 4x4? if so, you might check the connection between the transfer case and the tranny. i had bolts loosen up on mine and it clunked. shortly after that the transfer case ate its insides. not saying the loose bolts caused self-digesting, but it may cause a clunk when you take off load, that is if you have a 4x4.

It is extremely hard to diagnose universal joints by looking at them..... disassembly from the yolk(s) are the best way..... Before doing any driveshaft disassembly mark every part for realignment.
Carrier bearing? and does it do it when you are changing gears when pulling a load. Trailer?
ive never pulled a trailer so i dunno about that...and it isnt when im changing gears that it does it...its when im pushing in the clutch...if im in first gear and slowing down at a red light or just stoping and i put the clutch in when i slow down to obviosuly keep the truck from stalling and it makes the clunk sound...so its when i push in the clutch but not all the time...

So the only time it does it is when you are gear down at a light?? and you are on the brakes pretty good and push in on the clutch at the same time??
If you wait to long to down shift and are on the brakes truck can do that. The rear is under a load on the coast side of the gear and when you brake the torque when you push in on the clutch the rear will rebound the other way and hit the drive side of the ring gear pretty hard. The carrier bearing has a rubber cushion around it and it is loaded up one way then all of a sudden it relaxes. I have had dump trucks do this to me before when I am hauling a heavy load like a backhoe or a highlift because I let the engine get to low and when I pushed in on the clutch.
Just a thought. I am not saying you can't drive.
