Ok, here goes. In the day I was to sell my truck (1999 v6 automatic) it would not turn over. The radio rould come on, but it would not crank. I went to the manual and checked off what it could be. The ignition switch was replaced, and it STARTED PERFECT FOR 3 DAYS.
Today, it won't start. I tested the new ignition switch and its perfest. The old one was bad in two places. Any other ideas ??
Do you have 12 volts at the stater relay (TN/R wire) when the key is in the start position? If you don't, then check to see if the truck starts with the transmission selector in neutral. If it does, then you have a bad DTR, Digital Transmission Range sensor.
If you do, then check the small red wire at the starter for 12 volts in the start position. If you don't, then you have a bad starter relay.
If you do, then check the heavy battery cable at the starter for 12 volts. If there is a lot of corrosion on this cable and the voltage is low, then you may have to replace the battery cable.
If you have 12 volts on both the small wire and the battery cable, then your starter is bad. Good luck!
