got a strange thing going on with ignition switch. sometimes it doesn't want to release from the starting position when you turn the key loose and have to turn it back to get teh starter disengaged. noticed today that turning the key did absolutely nothing to start the truck with the tilt wheel down but soon as i tilted it to the full up position it started. does this sound like a wiring problem or is my switch going bad??????

I would start looking for a wire in the steering column that is frayed start looking in the area where it tilts. Good luck it is tight.
Also the ignition switch spring is probably going so should change that out before someone borrows the truck and ruins the starter.
thanx for the guidance. is it just me or when one thing starts going it starts a cycle of breakage and problems????? love my truck but it's getting go be a time eater. LOL will get steering column open and look for wiring an;d actuator rod. can't be any tighter than working up under the dash can it? at least i have the bike to ride while i'm working on truck. this weekend should prove to be a busy one.
You'll laugh but fix the problem that caused the sticking first. Limit the amount of keys on the ring with you truck keys. I have 5 keys max on a ring for a vehicle. I use a big carabiner to hold all the rings but I don't have ignition problems. What happens is the weight of the keys rocks the switch and over time wears the tumbler out where the keys will either fall out or cause it to stick. I used to change at least three tumblers a month because of this. I gave the customers a new key ring and carabiner with the repair and instructions to only use the smaller ring.

Yes you'll find that things seem to go wrong in 3's. But on the bright side .. you'll have a long strech of no fixing. Just happy trucking!
