ignition switch sticky

quick question. i know it's probably been covered, but can't find the thread-don't know how to search for it. got a new ignition switch in steering column. key works fine but when you turn the switch it's real stiff and don't act like it's going far enough over to work right. do i need to replace the actuator rod that's in there or if it's bent can it be straightened without breaking?

When you assembled the switch etc did you ensure the lock gear drive was positioned same as when removed....

The position of the the lock drive gear is correct if the last tooth on the drive gear is meshed with the last tooth on the rack.
