I HATE electrical issues. First I noticed the lights in my gauge cluster and the ac controls went dead (gauges still work). So, I checked fuses starting with the ones inside the cab. There was a blown 25 so I replaced it along with a 15 under the hood that I found after further investigation. They both blew again and now I notice that the passenger side lowbeam headlight is dead along with the amber running lights ( turn signals still work and highbeams work) and the gauge cluster still hasnt worked. The tail lights are also dead but the brake and turn signals are fine. Any ideas?
Pawpaw, the fuse inside the cab is a 25 in slot "17". The fuse under the hood is a 15 in the "mini11" slot. No "events" that I am aware of. No new additions or changes have been made. Prior to the whole cluster going dark I had one light go out on the bottom right of the speedo but thought it was just burnt out. I do have a reaccuring seasonal (summer) problem with the idle going up when the clutch is pushed in (3-4000rpm maybe) and dosent come down untill Im just abouy at a complete stop. At low speeds like in traffic the truck will actually push against the brakes aswell. Rags, Ill check the switch just in case. Other than that the truck runs and drives great
Rags may be on to something. The 15A "mini" fuse under the hood powers the parking lamp circuit vis a vis the main light switch.
You might have a short to ground somewhere, as well. Since you own a '00, you should check the large harness copnnector located under the driver's seat, as described in the TSB posted here: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/s...2&postcount=10
Not to hijack, but its on the same subject. I don't pop any fuses but my right rear tail/brake light socket goes bad about every 4-6 months. no signs of corrotion just melts.
OK, well cab fuse #17 on my 99, is for the cigar lighter & DLC 12 volt supply for a scantool.
On my 99, the underhood 15 amp fuse # 11 is for the Parking Lamp Relay & Main light switch.
Seeing a how we have so many problems with relays, why not try pulling the Parking Lamp/Trailer Tow Relay, in position #13 in the underhood power distribution box & then try another 15 amp fuse in position #11.
If it doesn't blow, suspect the relay, or the wiring to it, or a problem with the towing socket at the rear of the truck.
If you have a tow socket plugged into your wiring harness, or have a trailer hooked up, disconnect it before you try another fuse.
If it still blows, then look toward the wiring to the light switch, the switch itself, as Rags has suggested, or the load wiring beyond it.
Look for chaffed, cut, or burned insulation, especially anywhere the wires pass through a metal bulkhead, such that the wire could rub through it's insultion & short to ground, as Rockledge suggested, or near anything that moves or vibrates, or anywhere they run close to something hot.
