whats up folks i need a little help i got a 68 100 long bed im gunna cut down to a short i need wheel base measurements bed lenght from inside front to inside tailgate, from front of wheel tub to inide front of bed and from rear of wheel tub to tailgate i think i have to cut out 18 inches in front of wheel well and 6 inches out of back any info would be greatly appriciated thanx jason
Personally I think cutting the bed is a bad idea. You'd have to cut the truck in half and cut 16" out of the frame! Then you'd have to cut and reweld the bed as well, unless you found a short bed to mount.
IMO, longbeds are so much more useful anyway. When I bought my truck I searched far and wide for a longbed. You use the same amount of gas to drive a shortbed or a longbed, so why have a bed that can't hold as much load? Why cheat yourself on the extra room you already have? Just my opinion.
I'd rather give a long bed truck a 4" HORIZONTAL body section then shorten it - then lower the whole thing for a loooong/lean look. Why not just get a Chevy Luv pickup ?

Chevy Luv??????? EEEEEWWWW!!! Don't swear in this forum pleze!! OOOPPS!!!!! Sorry!! I just did too!
Sorry about the "Luv" thing. Just in a sarcastic mood at the time. If cargo hauling is not considered - why not add a couple of #3 wash tubs and make a dune buggy out of it ???
I'm not making a 4" horizonal toothpic, if I wanted a chevy luv i'd buy one. I already own a 68 long bed perfer short bed....just wondered if anyone could help me out sorry
1bdmfr68f100 - To shorten the frame for a 6' bed you may need to cut it in front of and behind the rear wheels. If that is done, I'd recommend putting channel inside the frame at all 4 places at least a foot out from the cuts ( four 2' pieces ). Bolted and welded in place. We used to make dune buggies that way when we mated a Chevy frame to a Dodge. We used car fronts and truck rears. That was in the 60's when we didn't have the tools and stuff to do it any better. Parts were usually left-over parts from what is today called Rat Rods. We built a car from the ground up, the left-overs were mixed up into dune runners.
