[QUOTE=jdadamsjr]Almost as safe in an accident as a motorcycle too !
I agree about the dangers of getting hit in a smaller vehicle ! No question about it......
I certainly wouldn't want to be in a "Smart Car" ( the new Damiler-Benz compact ) by someone driving a 7,000 lb + Excursion like mine.
I certainly wouldnt want to be in an Excursion by someone driving a 28,000 lb. GMC 6500 series "class six" truck like mine......!
I certainly wouldnt want to be in a 29,000 lbs GMC 6500 serise "class six" truck and get hit by an "18 wheeler" over-the-road tractor-trailer....
I certainly wouldnt want to be in an "18 wheeler" over-the-road tractor-trailer and get hit by one of those big Army National Guard tank transporters we see on our highways from time to time...
I certainly wouldnt want to be in a Army National Guard trank transporter & get hit at a rail-road crossing by a speeding freight train....
I certainly wouldnt want to be in a speeding freight train ..etc...etc...
The statistics are in, folks...driving on the ground is dangerous. Dont do it any more than you have to. Do what I did - buy an airplane & use it as often as possible to abvoid the risks of ground transport - we do, and we have the statistic to prove it is safer than ground transportation.
Oh, yes, we also have a mini-SUV compact called a Toyota RAV 4. Remember, there is only one SURE way to avoid an accident...SUICIDE !
If you google a website called British Motor Homes,or something like that, you will see some pix of Smarts on trailers as toads. I asked about it and was told that it is a trailer specially made for those cars..Also asked the price of them and for a new car a couple of years ago, they were around $11K to $13K and the same ones in the US were $18K to $22K... Sure thing !!!!!
I took my other vehicle in for repairs and the dealer (a small independent used lot with a great mechanic) had a few on the show room floor. When he told me it got around 50 mpg and was governed to 80 mph (I'm not sure I'd want to go much faster in that egg), I got interested. I got in, drove it around the lot then started heading for the highway when I asked what the sticker price was. When I heard "tw..." I suddenly lost interest and headed back to the showroom. The model I was driving was the Pink Panther Edition which was painted up like the one in the movie with Steve Martin last year. Nothing fancy, just the color combo. A nice maroon, cream and black. Wheels were painted to match. $27,500. I did some research on the internet and they aren't supposed to be officially released in the US until next year. Then the price will be about half.
