Towing with 5.38..

so i finally got my 5.38's installed..its ALOT jumpier off the line.i do cruise around 2100 rpms at around 60mph.my question is with my 44 inch tires, will towing a drag car really hinder the truck or will those 5.38 really make that big of difference?BTW im new to the site but i love it here.thanks for being nice.

Nope! it sounds like your X with the 44`s and 5.38`s is back to stock gearing. i.e. stock size tires with the 4.30`s. shouldn`t be a problem. I would however watch the temp. from the rear diff. when towing!

The rolling resistance of the 44's is still considerably greater than that of a smaller tire with less gear, even though the final ratio is the same. It will do it, and do a little bit better with 5.38's than with any 4 series gear or even 5.13's, but you will still need to be carefull. Try not to over do it when getting the whole thing going, and be very carefull when slowing down. The EX with 44's takes a bit longer to stop when it is empty, and towing another vehicle is only going to take a greater distance when you smash the brakes. A drop hitch is also going to have to be addresses. Lots of leverage on a truck that tall, so make sure you are doing things with saftey in mind. Recievers are rated for a relatively straight pull, and manufacturers did not have 12" to 18" drop hitches in mind when rating them.
Depending on the gears you had before, you will like the lower gears, they will make a good deal of diference.

Can you give me some insight into your fender flares? I like them. Who makes them and did you install yourself? Are they cutouts? I assume they are for a f250/350 but work on others. I have not found any for the X, just PUs.

Looking for bigger tires, no more lift.

Thanks

I would like to know what you are running for brakes.

I live in Idaho and would like to see your ride in person some time. What a beast!!
