Just talked to a friend of mine in Sweden and she has a small car so I decided to do a little size comparison. We then started talking about an even smaller car that is getting ready to go on the market in the USA. The Smart ForTwo (smartusa.com)
Well, here's the size comparison. The middle one IS a four seater but the little one is two only although it's roomy on the inside. http://www.************.com/excursion/Excursion vs Atos vs Smart-750.jpg
THe middle has a 4 cylinder engine and Im sure it's a straight configuration. 1.1 liter
"Effekt: 46 kW / 63 hk vid 5500 varv/min" THat's RPM by the way
0-60mph in 15.1 secs
I'm 6' and knocking on 300's door and fit quite nicely in the Smart Car, weiner and all. I was surprised. It has a turbo 3cyl manufactured by Mercedes Benz. Pretty neat little car. Too bad the dealer put a Jensen CD player in it!
Seriously though, they ARE made so normal or big people can fit or they wouldn't have any market. Did you just try one or do you have one or?
I think they're cool as hell and watch them get popular for a tow behind car for RV's and stuff.
I took some pictures of one a couple of years ago (or similar car) when I went back to Sweden to visit my parents. I measured the thing with a tape measure at 2.8m which is roughly 8.5'
You might not know this but the europeans are VERY safety conscious and I doubt they could get away with making a car that wasn't pretty safe, even if small.
