As far as warm air it really isn't an issue. Testing has been done and at speed the engine compartment is only a few degrees warmeer than outside temps.
Okay, have oredered the Tymar intake. Now to the downpipe and exhaust. Should the downpipe be 3" or 4"? In the kit from ITP, the downpipe is 3" and is 2 piece. In the kit from Beans, the downpipe is 4", one piece. How about exhaust, 4" or 5"?
For our truck the 3" downpipe is what you want. And it has to be 2 piece to get it in. The 4" is probably for the superduties. Also on exhaust 4" is plenty but 5" is cooler. If you want 5" go for it but as for need. 4" is good enough.

Tim, okay, thanks for the input. You're the BEST!!!!

One more exhaust question: aluminized pipe or stainless steel?
Where are you located? If you have salt on the roads during winter to melt ice then stainless only. if you live in salt free environments you have a choice. Aluminized is cheaper but will rust eventually. Stainless is more but will no rust out. there are also two common grades of stainless. I forget what they are called or which is which but one will stay nice and shiny like the day it was made and one will begin to look like the stock exhaust after a while. its all in the cost as to your choice.

Thanks Tim. I live outside of of Philadelphia so I am going to go with the SS. According to Dale @ Tymar, there are two grades of stainless, #409 and #304, the latter having a higher content of whatever.
Guys, I just installed the Tymar intake and it makes an unbelievable difference as you all said it would. Much better throttle response, truck seems to run a bit cooler and overall just a better running truck with the Tymar. Makes me wonder why the factory didn't design something like this when they made the trucks. Maybe because it is a wee bit louder with the Tymar. Can't wait to do the down pipe/exhaust upgrade. Many thanks to all especially Tim Beggs, for the advice.
Also want to do the fuel pressure regulator thing you all spoke about. Can anyone send a picture or tell me where the fpr is located in the engine bay.
I'm a newbie to the power of the Powerstroke as well, but this is a great place for information.
Here is a link to one of the best introductory lessons to get familiar with the Powerstroke.....the "coffee table" books from Ford........you can click on any one of them to open the pages and can print them out.......great photos and explanations.

It's on the fuel filter housing under the decorative cover. You need to reomve the cover.
