Before you think too deep about removing the Cat, check your state laws a little more in detail. Some vehicle don't have to pass an emissions test due to the GVW and or the year of the chassis. Texas will allow an emissions by-pass on a vehicle over a GVW of 9,900 pounds. This is in large because of the limited inspection stations that can access the size of a RV or big delivery box truck in an inspection bay due to physical size of the vehcile and the limited door heigth or bay size.
However Federal law still requires the cat be installed. The fines for an emission violation are pretty stiff.
The cat is not the major restriction in the exhaust system. Look elsewhere to improve things. You might gain some power by using dual large body converters in parallel (they still need to be rated to the weight), but I'm not sure the gains would be significant. I would look at a freer flowing muffler instead.
There is no need to remove the cat. It makes no difference whatsoever. If you go with other mods that will not perform with your cat, then get a cat that is compatible. JMHO on that.
If you don't believe me (us) then be sure to keep it whatever you do. You will re-install it some time soon.
