Any autozone or advance auto can test your starter for you... take it off and go to one while you are waiting on the VC's. It should just about twist out of the bracket when they test it. If it just spins out and doesn't yank the machine with it, it needs to be replaced. Could save ya some time once you get the parts. Check the cables while you have it off too.
ah.. I see. well, as a simple test if you have a large shop vice, you can put it in the vice and with a set of jumper cables and a battery test it yourself. Just ground the mounting ear, and jump the positive to the terminal. Not the greatest test but will check the output to make sure it has torque. Just and idea.
I was also told that I could do that with the jumper cables too, but how accurate is it? A couple of guys here have said that they have seen starters actual work(turn alittle) even though they are bad? I guess this test wouldn't tell you that. I dont know
well when you do it, the starter should spin right up and throw the gear out. You should be able to tell by how it spins if it is good or not, but would be hard to tell if you don't know what a good ones looks like... I would at least go over all the cables in the mean time. Move them around and look for and cracked or broken areas.
Well I have my new valve cover gaskets. Anybody have any suggestions for putting them in. It looks like you just put them in and hook them up. Also I still dont have an answer to my proble up to this point, but I plan to just put it back together and see if she starts, or look at the starter as a problem. I hope its the first one. For a couple of weeks now I have had to drive the car. Isn't that the worst punishment you can give us guys?
yep just put the gasket on, plugin the under cover harness and hook all those up. Then give it a whirl. Since you found your bolt you have no internal engine worries in my mind. Probably a starter/electrical issue.
Well, I put her all back togather and she started right up. I dont understand it, but I'm not complaining. I went for a drive and it went pretty good except my boost seems low. Can anyone tall me what kinda boost levels you get a idle and half throttle and full throttle. I only have the 10k Mod, but I thought we got up 16-18 psi stock. Does anybody know, and thanks again everyone. I really dont know if I would have figuered it on my own. Infact I still dont know what it was. I guess I'll do some searching in the posts about my boost problem. I wonder if that ebpv is stuck closed. Would that do it?

For a stock truck:
Idle = ZERO BOOST
Half throttle = 4-7 psi.
Full throttle (screaming) = 12-16 psi.
You may see a little difference either way depending on the condition of the turbo wheels, injectors, exhaust leaks, intake leak, air density, air temp., etc. etc.
I did some research and my numbers are about the same. I guess I was just wishfull thinking. I know each one of us probebly wouldn't complain if we got a little more than we have. Maybe one day I'll know what it feels like to hit the thirty mark like some of you guys around here.
This is a totally different post, but how would we get some more boost earlier in the game. Mine seems fine once I get their(65 mph), but I think it sure would help to have some in first and second gear. Maybe that requires a upgrade in turbos.
To get more low RPM boost a smaller exhuast housing is the key. 1.0 or .84. but these also take away from the top end a bit and create more backpressure. There is a point where the smaller housing has too much restiction and hinders performance but for a stock injectored truck I could easily recommend the 1.0 housing. Many runt he .84 too and love it but I have no experience with it.
Casey, just get some BIGGER injectors with LARGER custom nozzles. The more fuel you can dump in faster, the more turbo boost you will have. It's only money.
With my Stage II's (if I get on it) I can get 5-6 psi in first, 10-12 in second, 20+ in third, and peg the gauge in forth & fifth. Of course my EGT's are going through the roof and I have to back out of it, plus I can't see anything behind me for all of the black smoke and I just dumped 1/4 tank of fuel into the engine, but....it is fun to do every now and then.
But for the best bang for your money with stock injectors, TJ is dead on, smaller exhaust housing.
Oh yea, glad your trucks back up and running.
I like the sound of that, but my wife just shakes her head at me. I guess my injector dreams will have to wait for sometime. You guys do make it sound nice though. I think that will be my next goal.
