Talking Something to be said for a tune-up

My new 1979 Bronco has a 125litre gas tank I was getting about 9 miles to the gallon and had a huge raw fuel smell coming from the Carb.

Not to mention the engine pinged and lightly missfired underload on the highway.

So I figured it just might be a good if not great idea to do a complete tune-up.

So I pull the cap and rotor off and have a look see, well it looks like #8 spark plug was not getting much of a spark and all the cap terminals were heavily ozoned.

The wires were a little stiff and the plugs were the wrong heat range and worn out and or miss gapped.

Now after a complete tune-up I now get almost twice the milage(thank God)
Most of the smell is gone (94%) the truck runs great.

I believe this will hold me until I have time to replace the Timing gears and chain($32 at Partsource)
And set the timing up to OEM.

Best $100 bucks I ever spent.

Rick.

Absolutely!!!! Had you done nothing, that 100 bucks would have gone through your tailpipe before too long. Ya gatta love those old carbed engines. My favourite pastime was rebuilding the carburators. Those old trucks love that. Very relaxing. Must be like going over an old watch. Simple emissions etc.
