It was time for a good tune-up, replaced fuel filter, new plugs and wires, rotor and cap, and a pertronix I. Using stock coil It sure made a difference. No need for the flamethrower coil, stock is just fine. After a little fine tune she runs great.
I do need to take it out on the freeway and let her loose. What I have done so far, sounds and feels great.
Robert, wow, sounds like you covered just about everything, spark plug wires too. 1 of the items I tend to forget is the air filter, find it makes a differenct when it starts to appear dirty. Not familiar with the Pertronixs ign., on the last tune up I failed to set the plug gap for the Duraspark Ign. and could not figure out why engine was not operating quite right, after resetting there was a noticable difference. Have to mention my oil change 'stupid' trick episode where I removed the oil filter and installed the replacement filter and did not notice the old rubber gasket was still on the block. About 60 miles down the road the seals, old and new, gave out spraying oil everywhere; of course it would be in a remote, and isolated area, not even cell could pick up a signal. Anyhow, just 1 of many 'senior citizen' moments.
Of course we want our trucks to look good, but if we don't do the little things, such as maintenance our trucks won't run right. I did a complete servicing of my truck including, greacing, air filter, oil filter, oil change, plugs and plug wires, cap and rotor.
I also wanted to see what all the hoopla was regarding the pertronix I upgrade. So far it was the best thing I did to making sure my truck runs well.
Bottom line, "maintenance" followed by regular servicing, your truck will thank you for it.
