contribution test

Question contribution test

I have a 96' F-250 with 200,800 mi. I bought the scan software auto inginuity and I was running a cyl.cont. test and as it was running test I could hear cyl. being shut down one by one some would Idle worse than others but the engine died during test and the computer said errror occured and test could not finish just as it died. Does this mean I have a bad injector or two ???????????
The buzz test was completed successful if that makes a difference.

I have never had a truck die during the test but that doesn't mean there is a problem. Try it again and see what happens.

Was the engine warmed up all the way?

Well now I don't know what to say! Any chip or anything installed? how many times would it drop the cylinders before it dies? Are you having any issues with the truck or just playing with your Auto Enginuity? BTW way how easy was it to get started? I am looking at buying it soon.

I have an edge chip, I have been having issues that is why i bought the tool. it has been idling rough ( more than usual) fuel mi. drop, more than usual exhaust smell. a few people that drove it ask if had some injectors going out.

I would remove the chip then try it again. The buzz test tests the electrical side of the injectors so its a good sign that it passed but I suppose it could still have a mechanical issue which could show up in the contribution test. Remove the chip and try it again I guess. if that doesn't work I understand that AE's support is excellent. Might be worth a call to them (I hear you talk right to the owner!) and see what they say.

def scrap the edge all together they are crap, on the duramaxs they've recalled them, and in my personal experiances at ford dealers, all the truck with edges were melting injector tips and frying pcm's. just a word from the wise

Try the test with the ICP un plugged & see what happens....

definatly disconnect the chip completly, sorry forgot to add this one before, edge and banks both dont work right with ford scan tools so i'm sure you dont get the right readings with an aftermarket either. i had a sd come up on fords WDS as a mercury montego untill i pulled the banks six gun off it.
