im looking at geting supper cheep, a 89 f350 4/4 dully with i think a 7.3idi and a 5 speed trans. it is blown, as in big hole on pasenger side of the block! what are my options? can i put a gas engion in it ? or should i keep my eye out for a diesel ? and what year trucks would make a good doner ?
Gasser will not bolt up to the diesel trans (learned that the hard way).
Just how cheap is super cheap? If the rest if the truck decent (not rusty) than I would be tempted to pull the motor and put a turbocharged 6.9 in there (1985.5-1987 6.9L).
thanks guys i will be welding some equipment for the owners they are buying the materials and for my labor im geting the truck i will let you know how many hours i have in it when im done
If you really want to put a 460 in it I can show you how to drill the trans for this. did it for mine for 3 years then built a 7.3 for it. If they would let me post pics I could show you.
I agree also,460 really likes the gas. I went from 5 with the camper to 14, I can enjoy that, 7.3 actually has more power on hills too. It was built 460 and would eat ricers, they hate getting blown off by a cc4x4. LOL
thanks typefour i pm'd you cant wait to see the pics i want to keep it a diesel but may not be able to find one in my price range so the option to put a gas engione in it is a plus
Too bad you're so far away. If you were in my neck of the woods I'd say buy my "spare" 6.9, rebuild it (or at least replace the blown head gasket), and drop it in that puppy!

Why can't you post pictures? If you don't know how we can walk you through it.
