Chip questions for 95 explorer
Hi I was wondering when you put a performance chip in, which chip do you replace in the car? Does the PCM(powertrain control module) has anything to do with the performance chip? Because my car had blinking o/d light and then shifts really hard into and out of 1st gear I took it to a dealer they said it was the PCM. I was hoping if the performance chip, which kinda sounds like the PCM, I would just buy a performance chip instead of a new PCM, thanks much.

When you install a performance chip, you are actually adding a small piece of hardware to your existing pcm. The chip plugs into the test port on your pcm and stays there. The chip program overrides the program in your pcm. And yes, the chip will improve shifting, raise the shift points, raise the rev limiter, and remove the speed limiter. BUT, it will not repair any existing problem that you now have in your shifting pattern. You might want to give me a call, I can get the PCM for your vehicle very reasonably.
