I just had the clutch replaced in my truck. Apparently my PCM had some water issues so it had to be replaced as well. I also had a TS performance chip put in at the same time, and for some reason it is not doing anything. The truck runs normal but the chip isn't responsive at all.
Some additional info; Looks like my PSOM and VSS are shot. The speedometer and odometer do not work at all. I never planned on fixing this, as i just determine my speed of the RPM gauge which is working properly.
The mechanic thinks that the PSOM and VSS are causing the chip to not operate. Is this true? Does the PSOM and VSS have anything to do with engine operation when you have a manual transmission as I do?
Again i have a brand new PCM.............but my PSOM and VSS don't work---but could this cause my brand new TS performance chip not to do anything? truck is running, but no help from chip
Is the chip burned for the same code as your new PCM? If they're different then that could cause it. Cant say for sure on the VSS issue, but someone will know
Where did you get the chip and what tunes is it suppose to have? Is it possible someone gave you a blank chip?
If he had a blank and the chip was actually making a connection wouldn't the engine not run at all as the chip would have no calibration on it?
Make sure the J3 port on the PCM is clean. There is a coating on it from the factory that must be removed for the chip to make a connection. The J3 port is where the chip plugs in on the PCM.
Make sure the switch is plugged into the chip. The chip could have a stock tune on it and if it does and the selector switch was unplugged while in that position, the chip is stuck in the stock tune until the selector switch is plugged back in.
I don't believe the chip is a blank. I had a shop next to me order it and install it so i haven't taken it apart. The switch is in the dash- it doesn't seem to want to do anything. He thinks its not working because my speedometer and odometer aren't working. I have a feeling that has nothing to do with it. but that was what i am trying to find out. if the pcm wasn't burnt for my truck, wouldn't it not run?
also i had a valair (sp?) clutch installed and it is making a ton of noise. i've read that this is normal until it breaks in? can anyone give me any insight on this based on their experience? it sounds like its making a lot of noise at the shifter- but when i press the clutch in the noise goes away at idle. it sounds horrible, especially when im going about 20-30 in second or third gear.
also i noticed that my 4x4 lever was non existent tonight, was flapping in the wind so i took it over and they fixed it in like 10 minutes.. said they forgot to tighten it up underneath..
at no point was the 4x4 light ever on so i think it was ever in 4x4- nervous because i drove a 100 miles before i noticed the 4x4 shifter was basically disconnected. the truck won't be in 4x4 if the 4x4 light isn't on correct?
thanks guys. i'm starting to really hate this truck. spend a whole crap load of money and still have problems.
My truck makes the same noise after my solid flywheel. gear roll over its called. They say to add an extra quart of fluid in the trans to quiet it down. I havent done it yet. Soon though. If your truck was working why did they change your PCM? And your truck probably wasnt in 4X4 if your light works. You would have noticed when turning your wheel.
I have no experience with chips. And also I read to use synthetic in the trans. Cant remember what type is needed. But I cant wait to get new fluid and the extra quart in mine cause the noise drives me nuts.
Just doesnt make sense to me that your truck went in for a clutch and ended up needing a PCM. Unless it was acting up or something when you took it.
