I have another idea -- the driver's side one isn't bolted down (not grounded). I'll re-mount that one first and see if that fixes the problem. It just occurred to me that the ballast case may need to be grounded directly to the body to keep it from radiating a bunch of trash. I have it tied to the driver's battery box right now. I guess I'll pull the battery and mount it properly...

I know I'm diggin' up a slightly older thread, but I FINALLY got around to bolting the driver-side power supply down, and that cleared the issues I was having. I kind of figured it was something along those lines. So, if anyone gets these, make *SURE* you ground both power supplies to the vehicle chassis. To recap, I just dropped the driver-side supply in the side of the battery box with some padding to keep it from bouncing around. The ground is critical!!
I'm not familiar with the Excursions assemblies. I found that there are a lot of APC knock-offs on Ebay that look like the APC's, but either the coating or the reflective base is not done well or something, which I found on more than one instance throws the optics way off.
When I started using HID's a few years ago I tried to research the assemblies as much as I could. There wasn't much on the market back then that was specifically designed with HID's in mind except the APC brand. I believe they have superior optics that really shows when used with HID bulbs.
Nope no truth to that. Been running the APC assemblies in the Ranger and in my PSD for a number of years with great results. What a lot of people forget when converting the OEM halogen assemblies to HID is that the optic design of the assembly was made for halogen bulbs. How the light is emitted out of the glass envelope of the halogen is completely different then out of a HID bulb. That is why you have to use an assembly that is designed for HID use so you get an even distribution of light with as little splatter as possible.
Well, I'll tell you guys this -- I love these so far. I have NOT been flashed once with them, and even got a couple positive comments. You can't beat the price, and they really are well made. My problems were my own fault, so I can't blame them. I'd order them again -- I'd say for $135 shipped to your door, you can't go wrong. Now, on to checking out new headlight assemblies.......
They don't tell you on that site if it is Xenon capable or what.
This from their site.....
"StreetBeatCustoms.com has Headlights, Headlight Conversions and Headlight Conversion Kits including HID Headlight Conversion Kits. Improve safety and let others know you are coming with a new set of Projectors, Diamondback, or Sealed Beam Headlight conversions. Like the brightness look of BMW headlights? This could be your vehicle with an HID conversion! If lighting the road is a must, you've arrived at the right place."
When I talked to them in person they assured me that they are designed with HID's in mind. Besides the proof is in there use. Like Izzy351 said about being flashed by oncoming cars, I have only been flashed once or twice in 5 years. I think that's pretty good
Hey Izzy! Thanks for your PM response man! I recieved my new 2005 Chrome headlamps and I'm thinking about giving the HIDs from xenonlink a try! Since the new headlights use a 9008 bulb, I'm going to simply get a female 9008 connector and replace the 9007 connector. I'll save $70 by not having to get the Dfuser harness and do a killer upgrade in the process.
Can you confirm that your engine stall problem is still taken care of? Any problems since your last post (7/2007)?
Just so everyone knows. I'll have some 9007 Silver Stars with a couple hundred hours on them available $25 shipped! PM me!
After making sure the case was well grounded, the worse I've had is a gauge wiggle and ABS light flashes. So far, no stalls. One tip: When you receive them, the ballasts have some kind of protective plastic on them. Make sure you peel that stuff off before mounting them in their brackets. That's one thing I didn't do, and now that I have, the problems have largely gone away (besides what I already described).
