Man, I gotta read up on that $1,000 ticket. I'm not aware of that one here. I will be looking that one up tomorrow on patrol. Of course I'm now a day shift guy but winter will be coming. Heck, I'm after criminals and bad drivers, so who knows? I generally leave good people alone. I have no axe to grind.
Grats on the hids dude. I got the 10000k a long time ago on the same site and i pass by cops all the time and never been stopped because of them. Take some night pics!

Yeah, that was the attitude I gathered from the short amount of reading I did earlier. You'd have to really pi$$ in Mr. Policeman's Wheaties to get pulled over/ticketed for slightly blue tinted lights. Dark blue or purple, I could see the point, but not these...

Yeah, you were the one that turned me on to the site last week when you posted the pics of your newly refurbished mule.
I have got a pair of 9" 100W Xenophot halogens on my grill guard, I travel a lot of country hiways between 4-6 am and they will light up a 1/2 mile infront of me. I only use them during the late fall and winter and only when I can tell no oncoming traffic is coming towards. They have saved me and my truck from many deer collisions. Also great to light up the whole deer camp during those early morning unloads of the 4-wheeler and such. there is a picture in my gallery( which I need to update due to additional mods)
I know we are talking about 2 different species of lights but just thought I'd share.
I've run my 8k for 2 years now with no problems. I did change out the stock assemblies with ones that are made for HID's. As long as you have them aimed correctly, you shouldn't have any problems. When I was on patrol, the only time that I would even think of pulling someone over is they were blinding oncoming traffic or were a non-factory color like purple etc.
Had them in my Ranger too. So a total of about 4 years of driving with them I think I was highbeamed flashed from oncoming traffic twice.
Once you drive with them you'll never want to drive anything else without them. With my old retired eyes, I love the way the signs light up.
From Streetbeat Customs at http://www.streetbeatcustoms.com. They are the APC brand assemblies. They are good quality and the optics are good. The first set in my Ranger I tried modifying the actual Projector to use the HID. It worked but the cutoff beam was too drastic and I couldn't get use to it. On the F250 I just used the main lowbeam lense and it works very well. Like I said I think with the F250 in 2 years I've been flashed once by oncoming traffic and once in the Ranger. I've faced my truck in my wifes SUV and there is no glare or blindness at all. Now if you pull up behing a low sports car you will turn their night into day, but that is only at the stop lights/signs
I am pretty interested in doing this mod, but i dont want to use anything made by APC or any aftermarket brand if i dont have to. I have looked, not hard but didnt the expidetion come with factory HID's? if so how hard would it be to convert over to the stock housings made for the right bulbs, the balast and the correct bulbs?
Yes... for a quality setup you should not pay less than around $400...
That may explain your electrical issues that happened right after you installed them.
...and it happened again yesterday (truck died when I turned on the lights). Had to turn off the key and crank again. I think I can fix this -- just need to get a couple ferrite toroids.
Well I have never had a problem with APC assemblies, but the two times I tried some look-a-likes from Ebay the optics were terrible. The optics of the APC assemblies are top notch and right on. This is evidenced in no unwanted splash of the beam which results in a good focusing on the road ahead of you and not into the eyes of the oncoming traffic.
The actual HID bulbs came from Xenon Pros at http://www.xenonpros.com/mc6000k.html This where you don't want to scrimp on trying to save a couple bucks. The Phillips and the McCulloch bulbs and electronics are the best in the industry and used a lot as OEM equipment on new vehicles. They are reliable and long lasting. You can find other brands for a lot cheaper, but I highly recommend against them. I'll tell you what. Once you drive with them, you'll never want to drive another vehicle without them. And if you getting up in years, they really help out on tired eyes seeing those road signs. Good luck and hope this helps
