hey guys, today i started my truck up, started just fine, but the 'theft' light started to blink really fast, i turned the truck off and started again, and it was fine, whats thae fast flashing mean? i know it normally flashes when the trucks off, but it was flashing about twice the normal speed while the truck was running, any clues, it was 2000 xlt f150 5.4
well the truck did look a slightly different color but i just thought it was my sunglasses...hmmmm , lol no it was my truck, but does anyone know? it hasnt done it again i was just curious
I'd suspect there's an intermittent fault in the PATS circuit. Yeah, pretty broad assessment there....
Since the PATS system is only checked at startup, that's when you'll have to worry about failure. Once the engine is started, PATS is supposed to be ignored by the PCM.
Do you have an aftermarket remote starter installed or an additional RFID key on your keychain?
Also, on your model, the PATS function is controlled by the HEC. Run the "HEC* Dealer Test" (<<< SEARCH keywords) and see if the cluster has any PATS-related fault codes.
