Ken Payne,
I am new to this site, and also to the Chip stuff.. I just had a chip put in my 2001 Ford Excursion (7.3L diesel ). My "Theft" light does flash really fast when I first start my truck, but then gets slower and eventually stops.. Do I need to have something fixed? or just let it keep doing that... the truck runs GREAT!
Thank you
Fred
That is a first! Usually a theft light means a mismatch (ie, your computer has been reflashed). Or on 1998-2000 a missing jumper (extremely rare for diesels).
Did you get this chip from us? If so, then let me know the name you used when buying it and we can take a look at the program we did. If not, then you'll be finding out soon if your chip programmer has good service.
No, didn't get chip from you..referal from my local mechanic..said if I used this particular guy (has local shop here), I wouldn't have any warranty issues....Ford diesel tech at dealership is good about warranty, as long as problem really is't caused by chip install... or abuse.., just using low setting for towing...I don't know where he gets his chips from...., as simple as installing these chips sound,, I am still the type of guy who would rather have someone with a little more mecanical knowlege install it, just in case of any problems..
It sounds like an install or programming issue. His chips may also not support the Excursion PATS (Diablo and most chip companies modified their chips for the Excursion PATs).
Thank you for your input on this,,,, I will check back with this guy...Keep up the great info...I will send anybody I know wanting to chip, to check this site out FIRST before buying....
I'll let you know what I find out,,,for future info..
thanks again
Fred
FYI, PATS is Passive Anti-Theft System. First thing, call your Ford dealership. Give them your VIN number and ask them if the SUV has ever had its PCM reflashed. If so, get the reflash code. Give this to your chip dealer. Sometimes Ford dealers reflash your computer and don't bother to put the new sticker on the door frame so you end up with a misprogrammed chip.
Incorrect. If it were disabled it wouldn't work at all. He's running into an issue that only appears on a few Excursions. The vehicles with disabled service ports are a few from 1998-2000. It does not happen with 2001+ vehicles and I never see a diesel with one like this (so far). If you put a chip in a vehicle with the missing power jumper on the service port it will refuse to start at all until the chip was removed. Diablo and some of the other chip companies had to redo their chips to get around this Excursion issue (there are still few companies that use a special chip for just these cases).
Forgive me as I'm not much of an "expert" in these matters. I stumbled upon this thread which describes the some problem that I'm currently having. I have a 2001 Excursion (7.3L Powerstroke). I bought it used and it has a Quadpower performance chip installed (which appears to be working fine). I have the flashing "theft" light every time I start the engine. More specifically, it flashes rapidly for about 15 seconds, then flashes once and then six times as if flashing the error/diagnostic code "16" - it does this 9 times and then stops. I have no idea if the PCM was ever reflashed (I'm not the original owner; who/why would anyone do this?) nor do I have the specifics of the Quadpower install as it too happened "before my time". I just want the irritating flashing to stop. Is there some simple way to "reset" it? Any thoughts on where I should go from here? (Thanks!)
I don't know enough about Quadpower chips to diagnose issues with them. Sounds like they have an unresolved issue that occured with some chips on Powerstroke Excursions (Diablo solved this problem in their chips and a few companies even use a different chip in early Excursions). You're best bet is to contact them. Its not a reflash issue though, it wouldn't start if that were the case.
I ended up upgrading to a new tuner, but before I did I had Ford reflash me with all the 03' for my 01' excursion. Using a Edge - Evolution tuner. works great.
