Can anyone tell me how to reset the Anti Theft on my explorer? The light is flashing fast and the engine won't start. Without the anti theft being reset the truck won't start. Been checking around to find an answer but can't find one. Can anyone help me please?
Do you have a second key that is programmed to the truck? If so, try that. The Theft indicator may be flashing due to a key being used that for some reason the PATS system does not recognize. If that turns out to not be the case, then you will likely need to find someone with a professional scan tool that can access the PATS system to identify the reason for the flashing indicator. A standard scan tool that reads only powertrain codes will not be able to access the PATS system.
A well equipped locksmith (which are getting to be much more common) may be able to make a house call and pull the codes for your anti-theft system and even make and program a spare key or two for you on site. Since you would need two programmed working keys to program additional keys yourself, I would suggest if the issue happens to just be an issue with your sole key, you have at least two more made and programmed. This will give you the ability to just get additional keys cut for a few dollars and program them yourself.
The toggle/override switch would only be if the issue is an aftermarket security system with starter disable. Do you have just a blinking LED or is it actually the "Theft" or "Security" text LED in the instrument cluster that's flashing? Very few installers would take the time to tie an aftermarket system in to OEM indicator, but it would be possible.
Do you have stock key fobs or are they aftermarket fobs?
It all came from the factory. What happen was I pulled out and went to get the paper...(just a block or so) pulled back in the garage. About an hour later I went to start it up to leave again and there's nothing there. Won't even turn over. All the lights on the dash come on and go off shortly but the anti theft light on the dash flashes very fast and continues to when I turn the key to start the engine. I do have a remote and have tried resetting it with locking and unlocking all the doors...have removed the battery cable for awhile and there is just nothing. The radio...heat...ac and lights all work.
Yeah, sounds like you're going to either need to tow it to the dealer or find a locksmith with the tools and that will make house calls to find out why the indicator is flashing.
This isn't a fix by any means but may save some folks a tow. My 02 Explorer has also not started due to the malfunctioning anti theft system and was told the same things...have to have it towed and hooked up to a computer to fix. The last thing I did during my temper tantrum was slam the steering wheel down. Don't know why but that took care of it, started right up. Has worked 3 different times since. Just throwing it out there. I'm assuming they all have tilt steering wheels.
