I was driving my 95' f-250 4x4 and all of a sudden the power cut out and it ran horribly. It dropped down to a super, super rough idle. and floored could only pull 30 mph. It idles horribly, and would barely run. the problem was intermittent, then was constant, but now it won't start at all.(the battery is charged) When cranked over it used to start perfect for a second and then idle terribly and the SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT is on. I also replaced the cps and don't know what to do. i need to get this truck up and running. any help is appreciated, thanks.
Pull codes if you can, that will help. Start checking the valve cover harnesses for burnt connectors and wiring. You can remove the oil fill cap and smell under the covers for burnt wires. Check fuel filter....and fuel pressure.
Don't have a code reader yet. Can any one else throw out some different theories on why, just so i can know what different things it could possibly be.

Eliminate the valve cover wiring ,by visually inspecting it, It is a cheap test , then move on to the ICP, EOT, & IPR data. you will need a scanner if it isnt the valve cover wiring..Un plug the ICP & see if it smoothes out.....Picture here....
valve cover wiring seems to be fine. unplugged the icp and that didn't help. To get the fuel filter cover off, do i use a big torx, or tap it loose with a small hammer. i know, dumb question. and it's not reverse threaded by any chance.
I'm still learngin powerstrokes, but oil presure problem maybe?? Have you checked the oil level in the HPOP tank? Little hex head plug on the top right side when you are looking at the motor. Should have oil up in there. Just a free easy check for ya. Also make sure the oil level in the crankcase is full.

How did you check the valve cover wiring? It is important to check the visual stuff up to the valve cover, remove the plugs and check for burnt pins, but the only way to ensure that the wiring is good underneath is by removing the valve covers themselves. The gaskets are reusable. Most of the problems are underneath the valve cover, and that is the way that I would lean at this point. If you need details on removing the valve cover let us know. There are some continuity tests you can do on the pins, for the injectors, but we willsave that for now.
