The light grey plug is the OEM harness. The brown plug is the pigtail from the brake controller. In this case, a Tekonsha Prodigy unit.

The wires you found are just pass through wires provided by the factory so you can wire something up through the firewall.
Take your fuse panel cover off, look to the right side through the triangle opening. That is the plug there where you need to plug in your brake controller. It is prewired to the big plug in the rear. Mine was plug and play no other fuses or relays needed.
