I have a 2001 Ford Excusrion 4 X 4 PSD. I have about 212,000 miles on it. Tonight when I got home with my family, we got out and the dome lights stayed on. I went back out and slammed all 4 doors and the back, and cranked it up and the "door ajar" dash light and the inside lights would not go off. It's almost 11:00 pm here and I just unhooked both batteries so I could go to sleep. In the morning after I hook both batteries up, what should I be looking for to fix? Is it a door sensor gone bad. I have always had a little trouble with the second door on the passenger side hanging up and the power door locks not working 100% of the time, but nothing like this has ever happened.
Can somebody help?
mine does it too sometimes. i just leave it, it will shut off by the light module. the next time i go out to the truck, it works fine. search and you will prolly have to use some wd40 on the latches. the sensors for the lights are in there.
Soak the hell out of them with WD, use compressed air to blow out excess. Do that two, three times on all your latches, you'll be good to go. As racer said, they will go out if left alone, but it drives you crazy waiting. Takes less time to fix it.
Forgive my ignorance The sensor is in the door latch on the door?? I have read before that you need to keep the door hardware lubed to prevent this from happening. But I never knew the sensor was in the latch...
Hey john in mobile, this is chris in birmingham and i believe it has somthing to do with the weather and the miles. my 250 did the same thing when i turned 200k and it got real hot and humid. it wont do it as much in the winter i promise.
Thanks for the info guys!! Worked like a charm this morning. I will hit all my latches at least once more today. Going to try it on the wife's suburban as well. Hey Chris in B'ham(also known as the "Tragic City"), the weather has a lot to do with it. People from other parts of the country get down here and CANNOT believe the humidity.
You guys are a HUGE help.
