1996 PSD Chip
I have a 1996 F-350 w/PSD,it has 140,000 miles & I am debating on wether to chip it with that many miles on it. It has plenty of power now but I would like to have more low end since I am going to lift it & put it on 39" or bigger tires soon.

1998 and older diesels have less of a performance gain than 1999 and newer powerstrokes.
For the Superchip, the gain is 40 hp, 45 hp for the Diablo. This is still a significant gain. With the diesels, you get the best of both worlds, better mileage and more power. Since both the Diablo and Superchip give power across the RPM band, not just at wide open throttle, either one will help for your application.
As to whether or not its worth it, only you can be the judge of that. It all depends on how much longer you intend to keep the truck and what 40-45 hp is worth to you. Keep in mind that you can take the chip out and have it reprogrammed and installed into another truck if you plan to buy another.

Ken,
My truck is similar: '97 PSD with 125,000 miles. I pull a travel trailer with it occasionally, but mostly, I just make my friends drool over it!!
Anyway, I intend to get 300,000 miles out of it, Lord Willin', and wondered if the chip has been shown to have any adverse effect on engine life? I'm already getting 20mpg on the highway, but every little bit would help. And who couldn't use more horsepower, right?? Will the chip shorten the life of my engine?

If you tow, buy the 54 HP give and you'll have no longevity problems. If you don't tow, buy the 78 HP, get a EGT gauge and so long as you keep the temps reasonable you'll have no longevity problems.
