I HAVE A 1996 FORD F-350 PSD. I am new to diesels but not to working on trucks and rockcrawlers. I installed gauges in the truck EGT,TEMP, BOOST. I tied into the MAP sensor for the boost readings. I'm only reading 5-10 psi. I would think it should read about 20-25 or better am I wrong? The truck has a GARRETT TURBO,4in EXHAUST,90 hp CHIP AND COLD AIR INTAKE. Please help a guy out....thanks
At 70mph there is almost zero boost. When I hammer the throttle it seems to move out fairly well, not much smoke. However all these mods were make to the truck before I owned it. I don't know what to except. Iv'e only added the gauges, changed all the fluids.
@ 70 mph flat driving you should see 2-4 lbs. Maybe up to ten when you put the throttle down. Now if you kick it out of overdrive and mash it you should be able to get it up to 15-18lbs when your close to 3000rpm. If your not seeing thsi I would start were Jboard lead you. Check for leaks in your boost lines and fittings.
Thank for the tips guys. I'll try all of them. I went by Elite Diesel on SAT. They were closed, but a young man named Brandon was there and willing to very HELPFUL on his day off. We attempted to solve the problem, yet were unable to do so. He told me he was better with chevys than FORDS but still tried to assist me. I will be going back on MON. to speak with Tad who is their ford guy. Hats-off to the crew at ELITE in trying to help a newbie to the world off diesels.........
Is your gauge sensor electic or mechanical? I have an aftermarket turbo and at 70mph my gauge reads 8 psi. If I mash the throttle I can hit over 30 psi. The stock turbo should easily hit 17 psi when at hard throttle.
