It would be great to see the old 300 I-6 back. It was the most reliable engine that ford made. It had lost of of low end torque and good mileage. I get 20 on average and the best i got so is 23. If were me i would take the 4.4. the gas engine these days havent imrove in milage at all i think. Are 01 expedition gets like 16mpg at the best on the interstate. 4.4 should get pretty good MPG. but talking about MPG i notice that that companies say that they get better MPG and honestly i think they are the same from 10 years ago. hell i have a 80 VW pickup with a turbo deisel. it gets like 40 MPG with no problem. this is back in the 80s. whats the deal?

No **** right? Great engines but for some reason they just stop making it. Look at the cummins. It too is an I6.
I would like to see a small diesel option with manual tranny and a manual transfercase in either a v8 or I6 format.
GAS GAS GAS with all the emmissions diesels as we know them will be a POS and money wise the pay out on a diesel compared to gas is so far out there it it not even funny.

The problem isn't just the emissions, its the fuel type. In Europe, many vehicles that are diesels could meet EPA standards, but in practice, the fuel in north america is what would cause them to fail emissions testing. 5% BioDiesel could go a long way in reducing solid particulate emissions, but the distribution would have to be there first, a similar problem that already happened with ULSD.
But in the end, all it would mean is higher CO2 emissions and higher fuel prices.
If I could, I would vote for the good ol' 4.9 too. But while waiting for hell to freeze over, I'll just keep my old diesel on the road (not one single emission control).

Both gas and diesel seem to be around $4.00 a gal, but when the prices go ape s*** because some one in another hemisphere wants to blow something up, diesel price is still, for the most part, more stable than gas.
Although propane has only gone up $0.10/liter in the last 5 years . And $0.03 of that is just another tax that the provincial government slapped on all fuels.

Yup diesel is definitely more stable than gas....father works for Sunoco and he'll be the first to tell ya that!
Where the hell are you living at that gas is almost $4? I firgured $2.8 is a rip off your really getting the shaft. Ok this what I figure what you could do. get an older vehicle with no emmisons on it, put an newer engine in it or something like that. Cut all the emmisons crap out of it and you should be good for mpg. would work better with diesle engines better i would think.
The fact of the matter is that americans still have the cheapest gas in the free world, followed by canada, dispite how much it has drifted up in cost in recet years. I think the only place that has cheaper gas is venezuela (less that $1 per gal) as ordered, by the socialist government (chavez).
By all rights we (canadians) should have lower prices, since our dollar is slightly stronger than the american dollar, and we are a net exporter of oil. But I can't really complain, because the economy has been on fire up here for several years now, in no small part due to high oil prices.
If you want a gasser without emission controls, get any year of truck you want and switch over to LPG, as far as I know, it burns so clean (and completely), that there are no emission controls needed. If diesel is what you want, get an older NON powerstroke diesel, 1983-1993.5 had no emission controls from factory. Why do you think I drive an upgraded 86'? Theres also no PCM to deal with.
I know the Canuck dollar is MUCH stronger vs the US dollar then it has been in like forever, but I think that it's still only worth about 93 cents....
0.93 was ages ago, several months even (summer).
You should check the latest exchange rate. Today the canadian dollar traded around $1.06US before closing a little lower. Its mainly becuase of the amount of oil that canada has, but still, the most shocked people on the planet are canadians when it comes to how high our dollar has gone in so little time. We can't believe it ether.

We could always export some of our high-risk mortgage slimeballs to qualify Canadian people to purchase homes they can not afford. Within two years, that ought to bring the value of your dollar crashing down as happened here.
