I think the best gas engine design ford has put out by far was the 300/4.9l I-6.
Now with the way new technology is progrwessing,I would prefer the diesel in the
new truck,if I could ever afford one.A Diesel will deliver the towing power where it
is needed, and still get better fuel efficiency than a comparable size gas engine.
Plus with bio diesel becoming more available,It would be a more eco friendly choice.
i'd go with the 5.4L......it's currently what my 05 SD has and is very gas saving....as it is almost as my old f150 triton 5.4L engine......63 buckz to fill with cheapest gas....nothing better than that...besides diesel prices are going up..... ;-) no worries about injectors....

only problem with your bio diesel thinking is that using it will void the warrantees, with all the emmisions crap on the diesels they have become warranty *****
There's tons of reasons I'd go with the diesel, but number one on my list is that I then could brew my own bio-diesel and tell the oil companies "vaffunculo". If you know Italian, then you know what I just said. If you don't, you probably can figure it out. And you can think of it as your first Italian language lesson.

actually diesel is about 2.65 where i am and the cheapo gas is like 2.74 and with the added fuel efficiency of the diesel that's a good buck saved in a year or 2.... and just an FYI cause people always mention injectors as a problem... my stock injectors lasted 217,800 miles before i took them out, and when i took them out they were perfectly fine, got them made into stage 2s, no parts needed to be replaced that weren't getting replaced for added performance, but the glow plugs were shot, lucky they were like $13 per glow plug

Don't mention glow plugs/spark plugs around 3v 5.4 owners. sore spot, lemme tell ya.
20 dollars a pop and the chance of having them broken in the cyl head... yay.
Waiting (impatiently) on a diesel. Will then wait a year to let Ford work out any problems. Then will put my wife into one to go with my F250, 6.0. Yep, I'm biased, will only buy diesels from here on out.
