Gentlemen, I'm sure this has been discussed here before but I could not find any discussions on Hypertech (maybe ther is a reason for that?). Forgive my ignorance.
I have a 2000 4.6 F-150 for which I would like more power and acceloration speed. I've been to three different retailers in SD asking for the best option and have received three different responses: Jet chip, Super chip, and Hypertech programmer III. Which will offer the best performance for my purpose?

Hypertech: plug and play, allows some modification with some applications for tire size, limiters, etc. Does not retune except at wide open throttle. Pricey
Jet: does not tune at wide open throttle but the price is cheap. Great chip if you drive around at wide open throttle
Diablo: tunes at all rpms and throttle positions. Good price. Not CARB certified (California). Usually gives the best performance of the bunch.
Superchips (not Super chip, :-) ): tunes at all rpms and throttle positions. CARB certified (California). Most bulletproof chip.
Okay, now I am really going to show my ignorance (of engine performance)... Please explain to me what "Does not retune except at wide open throttle" means and what "tunes at all rpms and throttle positions" means. I think "open throttle means petal to the metal, correct? Thanks for the info, Ken.
What it means is that the Hypertech and Jet, while they do modify the transmission at all throttle positions, they DO NOT give you more horsepower until your floor it.
Dual program module
Run a high octane and stock program.
Run a standard performance and a NOS performance program
Switch between two programs from inside the vehicle
Went to have a superchip installed today and it turns out I have a special computer in my 2000 F-150 that is missing some jumpers and the chip wont work. They want to sent my computer to superchips for a week. This sucks!
The combination of the user id "Webmaster", along with "Ford Truck Enthusiasts Admin" in my signature and the huge "Online Store" button on the top right of the screen was an indicator that we're a retailer.
I am a part owner of this site, Ford Truck Enthusiasts. Our online store is how we're able to fund the site and its our sole income. We are a full time, family operated business and it takes an enormous number of resources to operate the site.
Okay Ken, I looked into a few more posts on this message board and it appears that you are indeed affiliated with motorhaven in some way. If I order a chip on-line, it will be through you, no question. The reason I went to a local retailer is because they said there were several things that needed to be done prior to installation like programming and sanding the connectors and adjusting this and that... They also were going to charge me $80 to install it.
Are you familiar with this 1999-2000 F-150 computer mystery where were 10% of the trucks build with computers missing certain jumpers? Will the Diablo work? After witnessing what they did, I'm confident that I could buy from you and handle the installation myself. Aside from sending my computer to Superchips, what are my options here? I need the chip!
