I have a 1995 f150 351 E4OD. I tow a 28 ft. travel trailer and need more power and better shifting. Which chip is the best: Superchips,Jet,hypertech????? Come on guys I need your opinions to make a decision.
I used a Hyperteck chip in my 460 before I eventually installed a Supercharger. There was a noticeable increase in mid range power, but you have to buy premium gas and my mileage dropped from about 10 mpg to about 8 - 8.5 mpg. You might try a K&N air filter, performance ignition and cat- back exhaust, and even headers. They will all improve power in small increaments, but should not adversely affect gas mileage,in fact they should improve mpg. I would strongly reccomend a "Banks" Trans Commander for your E4OD the improvement in shifting alone makes you feel like you have more power, and it will extend,(or at least preserve), the life of your tranny.

Mike: I have a 28-ft. Avion, no lightweight at around 6,000-lbs. loaded. I've towed this beast everywhere with my '91 5-spd manual, 300-6.
Spend your money on a 4.10 axle and all the best auxiliary cooling you can afford, both engine and transmission oil. If you have an open rear I'd spend the bux and get some sort of LS or mild locker.
Buy a big diameter, high-flow cat-back exhaust system, in stainless if possible. These are made by various manufacturers in myriad tailpipe(s) configuration and they actually work. I'm not so sure about the ignition upgrades, I've not noticed any difference with the one I'd bought, in fact I've pulled it.
DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES BUY ANYTHING, ESPECIALLY A CHIP, FROM JET.

I am running a Jet Chip in my 1996 F-150 4x4, 302/E40D and have had no problems. I bought the chip at a good price through Summit Racing Equipment. Installation was a snap and the performace gain was noticable. Before the chip I installed a Gibson cat-back exhaust and JBA shorty headers. The chip made the most difference in performance. When I added the chip I also put in the Jet 180 degree thermostat. I run midgrade fuel for daily driving and premium when towing my boat and have had not detonation problems.
