Mass air ECU code...

Guys I got this code on my trusty little autozone ECU scanner:

212 Tach, circuit, SPOUT grounded. SPOUT circuit, open circuit

Now if I take the spout out the base timing is still at 12* and when I put the spout back in the timing is taken over by the computer, so what does this code mean to me? Is there a resistor in the engine harness that could go bad that would cause this code? I originally thought the code came up because I drove the truck with the spout out, but after realizing that the spout was in my pocket when I got home I plugged it back in and reset the computer, but I am still getting the 212 code? This is on a 92 F-150 4x4 with mass air conversion computer....

I am code clueless, but do feel a difference in the performance after the conversion? Would you do again?

Hey Jrock what are some of the steps you had to go through to convert to mass air, and what are some of the cost involved?

My truck has occassionaly had the code 212 since I got it back in 1999. I never have been able to figure out if it is a problem or not and what is causing it. My code book says 212 means "loss of ignition diagnostic signal" and then says something about SPOUT. I thought the SPOUT was the timing advance like the old vacuum advance back in the day.

IDM comes from the TFI module and goes to pin 4 on the EEC. Loss of this signal could be a wiring issue or bad connector, but there's also an inline resistor, and of course it could be a TFI fault. The Bible has more info and pretty pics here... Ford Fuel Injection » Wiring Harnesses
