I'm going to be replacing my front rotors....
I was wondering what size socket I'm going to need to remove the spindle nuts?
I found a post that said it was a 36mm? But wanted to verify this.
Thanks.
yea just take the caliper off and then you may have to bang the rotor off but thats it. did in last month. easy. the front and rears are the same way. no need to take it off.

Yes, 2WD vs 4WD makes a very big difference on these trucks. Speaking from experience, on the 2WD models (which is what I have) the rotor, hub, and bearing are all one non-serviceable part. Thus the reason that the rotors for the 2WD's are sooooo expensive, $150-$250 EACH!
And yes, the correct size is 36mm, and it must be a deep socket. Best bet is to use an impact socket. Also note that Ford requires new spindle nuts every time you remove them. They cannot (well, SHOULD not) be re-used (they're even stamped "DO NOT REUSE"). They run $20-$50 depending on where you get them ($55 from the dealerships). And they need to be torqued to 295 lb/ft. You'll need a heavy-duty torque wrench to go that high... Procedure is to tighten spindle nut to 295 lb/ft, rotate counter-clockwise 5 times, then re-check torque.
Oh yeah, you'll also need 2 new cotter pins to hold on the castle nut which goes over the spindle nut.
