I have a 99.5 4x4. Should it have a locking rear differential? I have seem video of others on this site doing burnouts and both tires spin on mine only the passanger rear will spin.
Check your door tag, i think a non LS axle code is 31. Somone who knows for sure will respond soon. And you can also look on the rear end diff cover tag.. i think it will have an L between the ratio numbers.
My dads truck has limitedslip but it only works in 4wd.?.?.? His last truck did this. It was a 99 SD. He took them both to ford and they said there was nothing wrong with it.
Change your rear end axle fluid. I had the one wheel wonder axle too, i changed my fluid and did not add any modifier, and now after one tire breaks loose and spins a mere few inches, the other one is right up with it. Sucks because im constantly rotating my tires after every saturday night and i have 2/32" of tread depth
Just my opinion. But don't go with a stock Limited Slip. They ok for a stock aplication. If you are contimplating an axle rebuild, for about the same money($200 more) you can put an Eaton,True Trac, Or a Detriot Locker in the RR end. I have a Stock limited Slip with 160,000 on it right now and its never worked right. It's worked for years, but only intermitantly. When I changed the fluid it seemed to work better. But ocassionaly it will still act like a non LS. Well acouple of days ago I decided to do some launches and burn outs to post here for fun. When I finished my axle was popping and snapping along with a hissing sound when I turn. I figured it would probably go away as ocasionaly these axles will do this if you've romped on them alittle. Usualy if you do some tight figure 8's the cluthes will disengage and the noise goes away. Mine is still making hissing sounds. The popping and snapping is gone but not the hissing. Like a dry bearing or somthing. I'm ok with it though as I'm going to put a Detriot locker in it. The Locker alone is about $700.00 plus the install will put yah at about $1,500. This is removing the axle yourself and taking it to a drive line shop to have them install the locker. It requires special tools and the knowledge to use them to set up a RR end properly. Now if you take it to a shop and let them do the whole axle removal plus the Locker plus reinstall you gonna be about $2-2,500. There are also bearings, seals and gaskets that have to be replaced along with the Locker install. I hope this helps yah out and not Bum's yah out. Well Take Care. Country..
Oops, didn't read. I was under the impression that all trucks had the limited-slip in the diesels, and that you just weren't experiencing it. Never mind me.

You been drinkin' tonight, Kris?? Not sure what you're getting at here...
One-Wheel-Peel rear-ends don't ever get friction modifier anyway. Well, I guess you could add it, but it wouldn't do anything.

Okay -- we'll let you off the hook... THIS TIME!!!
drinking, no. Eating watermelon, yes. I have some awesome road tar-coating pictures in the process of being sent my way. I'm going to get some good footage too before i change out these tires.

Watermelon soaked in vodka, maybe??
Cool -- can't wait to see the pics. I got distracted by a phone call mid-reply, so I didn't see your reply before I finished my post...
