I've been looking for a PSD for quite some time now, and I can't seem to find just the right one for the right price. I really like the OBS, but wouldn't be upset if I found a newer one that was a good deal. I'd prefer a F-350 crew cab, manual, but unfortunately they didn't make short-beds in F-350s in the OBS.
Right now there's two trucks for sale near Seattle that have caught my interest. One looks to be a pretty clean '97 extended cab short bed F-250 manual, while the other must be an IDI (year of truck is not listed, but it has a Banks Sidewinder kit). I'm pretty sure I want to stick with a PSD for fuel mileage, power, and upgrade potential, but I thought I'd see what you guys thought. The links to the ads for both of the trucks are below:
The IDI has almost everything I want, including a canopy, and some other nice upgrades. The downsides are that it is a long-bed (if I'm going to buy a long-bed, I might as well buy an F-350 to get the better front end), and it's not a PSD.
The PSD looks really clean, has low miles, but if you look closely at the pics, the bed seems pretty out of alignment and the front bumper appears crooked. They're also asking WAY to much for it, and would have to come down to at least $9k, depending on condition, for me to buy it. I really should run a CARFAX, but I'm too cheap to pay for it unless I know I'm going to get it.
i like the 97 better the price is a little high but its at a dealer from the looks of it, i gurantee they dont have more than 7500 invested in that truck so go in with cash and you can probably knock em down a good bit.
as for the crooked bed and bumper, that is lots of leverage to knock that price down, the bumper is an easy fix and the bed is pretty common on these trucks, if the bed really worries you just shim it
Thanks for the input c00nhunter! I agree with you, even though the 97 doesn't have all of the goodies, it's probably a better truck overall if the price was right.
Oddly enough, I was able to find my IDEAL PSD in Prineville, OR (near Bend). I thought this one was gone, because it disappeared off Portland's Craigslist page, but it's still listed on Bend's CL page. I even called the number tonight, and, sure enough, they still have it! The link is here:
Again, their asking price is at least $4K too high for my tastes, but I would think I have some decent leverage, since it's been sitting on their lot for at least a month already, and I'd be bringing cash.
Hmmm... I'm not sure how I'd go get it home - maybe go out there, buy it, rent a U-Haul trailer, and tow back my Tacoma? It would be a good way to give the PSD a decent workout on the way home to see if there's any problems...
