I'm planning on selling my IDI soon and buying a '97 F350 crew cab long bed. I'm really interested in dropping in a later model reman 7.3 and ZF6 setup for added power and just so I can start off from zero miles. How difficult would it be to fit the newer setup in the '97 truck?
Swapping in a ZF6 isn't worth the trouble of modding the floor and adding the trans cooler.
Keep your motor and just rebuild it.
The 94.5-97 engines have forged rods and can handle 500hp
The 99-03 gave forged and PMR rods. It'll be a toss up on which one you get. The PMR rods are only good for around 400hp
The 94.5-97 is 215hp and the 99-03 is 225hp. The only reason they make a little more power is the have 140cc injectors compared to our 90cc
