I was trying to get at my gauge cluster this weekend to see what's the problem with my voltmeter (acts flaky, sometimes works othertimes it doesn't). I got very close to getting the bezel off but there seemed to be one more screw in the vacinity of the headlight switch that was holding it in. Do you have to remove the panel the headlight switch is in and remove another screw there or what? I got the **** off of the headlight switch but couldn't figure out how to get the black panel off of the bezel.
Anyone taken their dash apart before? Thanks in advance...
First disconnect the battery. Turn the headlamp **** to the headlamp on position and it pull. It should pull out about 1/8". Insert a thin tool under the **** opposite the headlamp icon. This releases a clip under the ****. It should pull all the way off. Turn the **** 180 degrees and push it back on. Turn counter-clockwise until the back of the **** is in the off position. Then turn the **** fully clockwise. You should now be able to remove the headlight switch. This should free up the removal of the bezel.
This is right out of the '97 F150 shop manual and the procedure works. I had to remove my cluster because of a bad tach.
Your instructions regarding the light switch removal worked great...I had to replace my light switch panel because I broke the **** for the headlights with my knee....Do you know if you can just buy a new **** or do you have to buy the whole panel?? My dealer told me I had to buy the whole panel which cost about $80....I suppose I could have searched the junk yards for a wreck and just popped a **** off but I wouldn't mind finding out that my dealer sold me more goods than necessary.
